Q1

Can you create a website design only?

A1

Yes, because of our relatively unique position of being a design studio that produces websites, we are often called upon to design websites for other website builders or for in-house i.t. departments.

If you would like to benefit from this design only service either call the office
or fill out the online enquiry form.

Q2
How much will a website cost?

A2

We at DesignCoUK try and make the costing of a website as simple a process as we can. Many website companies will either not show you any prices up front, or will make you go through a whole series of questions and scenarios before ending up with an over complicated quote that you can’t understand. We have produced a simple price guide with a number of options to help you see just how much your site will cost at a glance.

Q4
Can you add pages to my existing site?

A4

Yes, we can add pages to any existing site so long as you have the details of the current hosts or have the contact details of the company/person who set up the current site we can create pages that can either enhance a current site or replace it.

Q5
Can I update the pages myself?

A5

We can use a variety of solutions to enable you to be able to manage and look after the site yourself. Depending on exactly what level of updates you require we can either use an off the self package such as Macromedia’s Contribute or use a bespoke database solution to enable you to update the content of your site quickly and easily without needing any knowledge of how to build websites.
Alternatively we would be more than happy to manage your site for you for less money than you might expect.

For more details on any of these options please call the office
or fill out the online enquiry form.

Q6
How do I receive my emails?

A6

If you have registered a domain name through us and have requested an email address then you should have received a letter/email confirming all the details that you need to be able to set up your email software. If you are going to use Microsoft Outlook than we have provided a step-by-step guide to show you exactly how to set this up to be able to receive emails. (Microsoft Outlook Express is very similar and these steps should also help setting this up). If you are going to use any other software to receive emails then please refer to the manufacturer’s documentation to set up a new email account.

Q7
I can receive emails but not send them, why?

A7

This most likely due to an incorrect smtp or outgoing email setting. For more information on this setting, click here.
If this was working and has suddenly stopped without any changes being made then this usually indicates that there is a fault with the connection to the internet that your ISP is providing you with. Please call your ISP in this case.

Q8

Can I check my email without a mail program such as Outlook?

A8

Yes, using webmail services such as Mail2Web, you can receive email from your account using only a web-browser. You will need the name of the POP mail server, (which will be 'mail.yourdomain.co.uk'), and the username and password for whichever mail account you wish to check.

What is a domain name?

A9

This is the unique name by which an internet site is known. For a full definition follow this link.

Q10
Can I use any domain name?

A10

So long as the domain name is not already registered then you can use any domain name you wish. As a general rule you should ensure that the name you are looking to register does not infringe any existing copyrights or trade marks. You should use only letters, numbers and hyphens in your choice of name and keep the total number of characters used to within 63 characters including the extension such as .co.uk and .com.

Q14

Why do some of the sites in the site selector page require a password?

A14

The site selector section of our website is where we develop our client’s websites. This is a feature that allows each client to see the development of their sites as the work takes place. We password protect the sites, individually, that are currently in development to allow our clients the final approval on any site prior to it being published on the internet for all to see. Once it is published we will create a link to it so that browsers of our site can see the completed work.

For more examples of our work please visit the pages in our showcase section of this site.

Q15
Why can’t I print the map from the web page?

A15

This is probably due to a setting in your browser which prevents background images being printed, (a useful feature from an ink/toner usage point of view). However we have provided a printable version of the map with address and contact details on it in pdf format.
